Army's Installation Manager Listens To Military Spouses
Military service can be very challenging. That's why the Department of Defense offers many programs to help military personnel and their families thrive in difficult circumstances. From medical activities to 30 days of leave, military personnel are committed to providing a variety of services to help service members and their families. This includes families with members who have special needs, including special education or health care.
Two of these programs are the Special Family Member Program (EFMP) and Respite Care for Primary Caregivers of the Military. Let's take a look at these programs.
The Special Family Member Program (EFMP) is available to military families who have a member with special medical or educational needs. This mandatory enrollment program is designed to help EFMP families navigate the complex medical and educational systems while serving in the military. Some carers are also eligible for maternity care.
After enrolling in the program, the EFMP office can help families find out what services are available in their current or new setting. EFMP support staff are available to assist you and your family with information and non-clinical case management to access care-related services.
Military Respite Care Program Ouch Report
EFMP support staff work in a three-pronged approach to ensure your family has the most successful military family experience possible. This is done through identification and registration, task coordination and family support. The resources, tools, and services that help support you and your family are collectively known as EFMP Resource Options and Counseling, or EFMP ROC.
Note: Enrollment in the EFMP program is required if you have a family member with special medical or educational needs. Registering gives you access to services and supports to help your family live their best life.
The EFPM program ensures that special needs are addressed in relocation assignments. This is important because it provides the medical and emotional services your family needs. Since some of these services are not available overseas, the EFMP program can help you meet your family's needs. However, it is important to note that this transfer is based primarily on medical resources, not education, so it is important that you contact your local EFMP coordinator or non-profit organization to ensure a smooth transition.
While each branch of the military has specific EFMP resources designed to meet the needs of you and your family, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 includes language to standardize the EFMP program across all branches, including the Coast Guard under the Department's jurisdiction. Childcare & Respite For Military Families
Military life is complicated and caring for someone with special needs can be made even more difficult, especially during deployment. Respite assistance is available to military-related primary caregivers for temporary respite or relief. This program is non-entitlement and subject to budget restrictions.
Child Care Aware of America (CCAoA) partners with DoD to support and serve families through Paid Assistance and Child Care programs.
Trainee care is available to all branches of the military through Tricare's Extended Care Health Option (ECHO). ECHO's Home Health Care (EHHC) is a nursing care program for primary care providers.
All branches of the military, including Guard and Reserve components activated under Title 10 or Title 32 federal orders, are eligible to apply for the Peacekeeping Program. Not all service affiliates cooperate with Child Care Aware. Effective October 1, 2019, the Air Force will internally manage and administer its EFMP Respite Care Program.

Please note that there is a cap on the annual benefit associated with the EHHC, which is based on your location and the equivalent value of the property.

Applying for EFM Retention Care is simple and easy for Navy, Marine Corps, and Army families with EFMP members. The Air Force now directly manages the recess program.
First, create an account and family profile on MilitaryChildCare.com. Then complete and sign the EFM Retitude Care Eligibility Certificate. Then confirm your family information. Once this information is confirmed, the specialist will email you that you have been added to the EFM Retitude Care waiting list.
